Working with an Architect
Appointing an Architect is a big decision and it is important that you get it right so you feel confident about the professionals you work with. An Architect can offer great value to a project - no matter what size or budget - and at Tom Crooks Architecture we offer a full architectural service from conception through to completion. We can assist with coordination of the project and advise on space, scale, lighting (natural and artificial), energy efficiency, decoration, cost, programme, planning & legal aspects, appointing other consultants and generally getting the best out of your project.
By involving an Architect early on, you can ensure that you get the design you want, whilst keeping control of time, cost and quality, and avoid needing to learn the complexities of the planning system, the Building Regulations or managing Party Wall issues.
We are happy to meet with potential clients to discuss their project - no matter what size. Contact us for more information. We can offer services in connection with:
Planning Permission & Listed Building Consent
We are able to prepare designs, compile all supporting documentation and submit applications for planning permission and other consents for projects of all scales.
Building Regulations Approval
We can prepare full applications for Building Regulations Approvals, with all accompanying drawings and notes, as well as coordinating the input from other specialist consultants.
Faculty Approval (or other ecclesiastical equivalents)
We work with faith buildings across different denominations, helping to obtain the necessary ecclesiastical consents (such as Faculty and BULBAC permissions)
Concept and Specialist Architectural Design
From conception to completion, from hand-drawings to computer aided design, we work with our clients to develop designs to meet their brief
Party Wall Matters
We can advice on the need (or otherwise) for you to serve Party Wall Notices on your neighbours and assist in the preparation and issuing of those.
Contract Administration & CDM Health & Safety
We are qualified to act as CDM Principal Designer and we work with Clients to advise them of their obligations under the Regulations.

About Us
Tom Crooks Architecture was established in 2013, by Tom Crooks, with the aim of providing specialist conservation architect's services in and around the Peak District and Sheffield, as well as the wider Yorkshire and Derbyshire areas. We are delighted to now be based in the Grade II listed building, The Dovecote, in Hathersage.
Accredited as a Specialist Conservation Architect with the country's leading conservation accreditation body (the AABC) makes us uniquely qualified to offer highly specialised advice on historic buildings and building in historically sensitive environments.
Over the past nine years, we have established connections with local specialists such as structural engineers and environmental consultants, as well as local craftspeople and contractors. We can guide you through the entire process from conception to completion, and anything in between.
Establishing a good relationship with our Clients is at the forefront of everything we do. We value the personal service we offer, with oversight of all jobs provided by Tom Crooks to ensure a high quality service. We are always available to meet face-to-face to address any questions or needs you may have and to assist with every aspect of the project.
We aim to create beauty through design; taking what already exists in our landscape, historic buildings, and communities, to shape the future of our built environment with the production of beautiful, practical, and sustainable spaces. Architecture is not just about physical buildings. It is about the home you live in, the office you work in, or the church you worship in. Our unique approach brings buildings to life, truly honouring what they represent.
Every building has the potential to be something special and we aim to realise that potential with all our projects. We get as much pleasure from working with a client to re-arrange their existing house and a grand architectural masterpiece.
